    Sorry, when I posted this first, I didn't realize that I had two tab widgets on one slide, and that's what 's causing the issue. When opening the published project, only the first tab widget shows the selected tab (see pic tab1).
    Also - which is another issue - as soon as you click the other tab widget (pic tab2), or anywhere else on the slide (pic tab3), the selected state disappears, which shouldn't happen.
